Blantyre make the short trip to Stonehouse tomorrow to face Royal Albert, the team that they went toe-to-toe with, at the KG Stadium in the first league fixture of the season back in early August. On that day The Albert were holding on for a point after conceding a goal and going down to ten men early on. Despite a second half equaliser by the visitors, Jake Hughes took a leap of faith in front of goal. As he lunged into the hair and lobbed the ball over the keeper to give Blantyre a late winner.
Since receiving a crushing defeat at Yoker three weeks ago they bounced back with a 1-1 draw against top of the table, Gartcairn. Last week at Shotts, they took the lead through a first half strike from Scott Ballantyne. Despite leading until the 75th minute, Royal Albert’s hopes were dashed by a quick-fire double from Danny Burns and Jordan Love.
The Vics have recently been rejuvenated in their search for promotion. They have now won two games in a row, after the derby victory over East Kilbride a fortnight ago, and the 7-0 thrashing of Lugar Boswell Thistle last week. Victory today would certainly add to the buzz around Blantyre at the moment. Promotion will certainly be a difficult task for the blues but the fans remain very optimistic of their chances.
It should be an interesting matchup with the Vics pushing for promotion and Royal Albert chasing down on Bellshill and Port Glasgow for a top five finish.
McBookie Odds:
