After a sad week for the Scottish game, the fans of both supports will be looking forward to this enticing fixture. There is certainly unfinished business between Blantyre and Bellshill after the last meeting of the sides seen a lot of drama, including red cards, penalties and some spectacular saves.
In the meeting back in February at Rockburn Park, Keirin Coleman seen a ‘questionable’ red card for a tackle on Paul Brennan in the area. Jamie Stewart slotted home the penalty, which turned out to be the winner. Despite a late flurry of chances from The Vics in the match, Hill keeper Jordan Brand was in fine form and pulled off some incredible stops.
The recent run of form of both sides may mean that we will see a different side come out on top today. Blantyre have now won four matches on the trot, including an emphatic victory over league winners Gartcairn. As well as victories against tough opposition in Royal Albert and East Kilbride Thistle in the last month. Now with four games remaining and their eyes set on third place, they will be a force to be reckoned with as every game is crucial to their promotion hopes.
Bellshill on the other hand have struggled of recent, going four matches without a victory. They started the month with a good point down in Ardrossan, cementing their place in League One for next season, although they failed to build on that result and dropped points to already relegated Lugar Boswell Thistle. In the last ten days they have played both the title challengers in Shotts and Gartcairn. In both games they were comfortably beaten.
Despite the visitors poor run of form this fixture still certain to be an exciting one, as Bellshill will be looking to climb the table, sustain their pride over their local rivals - while crushing Blantyre’s promotion hopes in the process. Although The Vics will certainly be on a high after last week’s big win, they have their eyes set on one thing - the Championship. The stage is set.
