Match Preview - Shettleston

One side in search of promotion, one looking to pull away from the drop – both desperate for three points set to lock horns today!

It certainly feels like a long time since the sides met at Greenfield Park back in August. On this day Blantyre dominated preceding's, although the scoreline didn’t quite portray their control over the match. A 2 – 1 victory, in which Con Boyle opened the scoring in the 40th minute, which was a relief after a strong performance in the first half. In the 57th minute former Shettleston keeper, in the Vics goal, slipped due to the wet conditions and the Town got their equaliser. Two minutes later, Nadeem scored the winner for Blantyre following a goalmouth scramble.

Shettleston’s season hasn’t improved much since this defeat, only managing four victories. They are on a very poor run of form, which has resulted in them finding themselves in a relegation battle with Yoker Athletic. With only three games left to play (one more than Yoker) and only two points above the Clydebank side, they will be desperate for any points they can get.

Blantyre can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel, with three matches left they need at least two victories, or one victory and two draws to secure promotion to the Championship. On paper, coming off of an impeccable run of form, five victories in a row, they are understandably the favourites to take all three points today.

With one team avoiding relegation and the other fighting for the final promotion place, this may possibly be the most exciting fixture of the weekend.
